1966 Gretsch 6119 Chet Atkins Tennessean
1966 Gretsch 6119 Chet Atkins Tennessean
First appearing in 1958, the 6119 model was a more budget friendly introduction to Gretsch’s famous Chet Atkins line of guitars. Starting as a single pickup model, the instrument morphed in 1961 into the specs you see here and remained that way going forward. This instrument features two HiLo ‘Tron Pickups, a thinner body with, trussebracing and painted F holes to reduce feedback and a bigsby tremolo that performs beautifully. This instrument has the original frets and although small and low, they are in good shape considering their age. The instrument has a nice low action and plays incredibly well.
Typical of 60’s Gretsch guitars, this guitar is experiencing “binding rot”, and one of the pots works but will eventually need to be replaced as it has little of the sweep left in it. Some of the binding on the neck is starting to peel up, but hasn’t done so yet as well. Other than the pot, the instrument is fully functional electronically and sounds amazing. If you’re looking for that classic Gretsch sound at a great price, look no further! Will come with a non original hardshell case.
