First introduced in 1962 as Gibson’s second square shoulder acoustic model (the first was the Hummingbird™), the Gibson Dove™ is one of the most recognizable acoustic guitars ever made. It has been used by players such as Elvis, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Alex Lifeson, Frank Hannon, and many more. Now Epiphone, in partnership with Gibson Custom, is proud to introduce the Epiphone 1963 Dove Reissue, a stunningly authentic recreation of the iconic early Dove models from 1963. This beautiful acoustic guitar has a thermally aged solid spruce top that is reinforced with traditional scalloped X-bracing made from quarter-sawn, solid spruce. The back and sides of the 1963 Dove Reissue are made from solid, figured maple. It delivers a bright, clear tone from the maple body, as you might expect, but it also has a bit more bass than a Hummingbird and a very balanced tone overall that works exceptionally well in a wide range of musical genres. The one-piece, thermally-aged, 25.5” scale mahogany neck has a Rounded profile that is capped with a bound rosewood fretboard that is outfitted with 20 standard frets and adorned with split parallelogram mother-of-pearl inlays.
The Dove is richly and iconically ornamented. The body features multi-ply top and back binding. The dove-shaped rosewood bridge plate has two mother-of-pearl dove inlays. It is equipped with a compensated bone saddle, and the nut and bridge pins are also bone. The iconic Dove pickguard features a mother-of-pearl dove. On the headstock, Kluson® Waffleback tuners with metal Keystone buttons help ensure solid tuning stability. The headstock features a two-ply white and black truss rod cover engraved “DOVE,” and the Epiphone logo and Gibson Crown are inlaid in aged mother-of-pearl. The headstock features a Gibson-style “open book” profile with the Inspired by Gibson Custom double diamond logo etched on the rear.
To ensure it meets the live performance and recording needs of today’s players, the 1963 Dove Reissue comes equipped with a built-in L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze VTC preamp and under-saddle piezo pickup system, so it’s stage and studio-ready whenever you are. A Red Line-inspired hardshell case, which features the Inspired by Gibson Custom logo on the exterior, is also included to keep this beautiful acoustic guitar safe when you’re traveling to your next performance.
